Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
I have been watching the evolution of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for decades now.
It has been a cat-and-mouse game as “SEO experts” attempt to reverse engineer how search engines rank websites.
They have calculated precise ratios for the optimum placement of keywords and phrases on web pages, and secured incoming links from other, often unrelated, websites.
Such contorted efforts often backfire when Google changes its algorithm, as it does regularly.
Search engines simply want to give searchers the results they are looking for. They would prefer that everyone have good content, appropriate structure and accessible pages. They don’t like the hidden text, unnatural prose or overly “optimized” pages that indicate that some “SEO expert” has had their way with the site.
Set it up for success in the search engines, without resorting to unnatural practices.
Social Media
Social media works hand in hand with your Search Engine Optimization (SEO), as it multiplies your visibility to both people and search engines.
Search engines are now programmed to reward your website for activity it generates on social media.
Don’t feel daunted by the many choices. Start with the one(s) that you will follow through with. Integrate them with your website using buttons, feeds and “Like boxes” as appropriate.
If your images convey much of your message, consider using Pinterest.
I can also advise you on what your website needs on a consulting basis.
