Portfolio: Website Design for Associations and Not-For-Profit Organizations

Barefoot Acupuncturists

Barefoot Acupuncturists (above, left) is a humanitarian organization offering acupuncture services and training in impoverished places, currently in India. I worked closely with its founder, Walter Fischer (mostly via Skype), on the English, French and Spanish (not the Chinese!) sections of the website. I hope the result conveys the passion and integrity of the team and their work. Walter’s photography dominates, making the site well worth a visit.

The Sexual Health Centre Lunenburg Co. (above, left) wanted a site that both young and older people would relate to. Features: a question form, a multi-level menu, downloadable pamphlets, a lot of information. Maintained by staff with Adobe Contribute.

The Blockhouse School Project is recycling an old school into an education centre and model for sustainability, and a green business incubator. I am on the board as director of communications. This is a WordPress site.

Centre Scolaire de la Rive-Sud

Three sites in French or bilingual French-English, all based on WordPress: (abive left:) the website I designed and maintain for my son’s school, the Centre scolaire de la Rive-Sud, a French Acadian school near Bridgewater, NS. I’ve recently converted it to a multi-user WordPress network so that each teacher and committee can have a blog; (middle) the associated Francophone Community Centre for the South Shore; (right) another Francophone Community Centre in Truro, NS.

The International Symposium on Fireworks (above, centre) meets every couple of years in a different location and has a bang of a time! We maintain the site for the busy organizer, adding resources as the event draws closer, and photos and videos afterwards.

On the education theme: the Association of Workplace Educators of Nova Scotia (AWENS)’s website has a newsletter signup form and a members-only forum.
