Cathy Arsenault
Cathy
lives with her family in Victoria Harbour, along the Bay of
Fundy shore on 100 acres of woodland and streams. Her
artistry finds expression through rich watercolour landscape
painting and warm alto melodies that invite the listener into
a world of evocative images. She has been performing original
songs at folk venues since 1977, when she christened "Fundy
Bay Blues" at a coffeehouse in Prince Rupert. Since then,
her love of song and harmonies has been heard in local choirs,
variety and benefit shows, kitchen parties, local radio ("All
the Best"), and TV.
Living in a vibrant musical community, Cathy has been involved
with several musical projects and collaborations, one of which
was Rhythm Method, whose first appearance was at the
inaugural Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival. From 1987 to
1995, this group of six friends, four of whom were songwriters,
arranged and performed original songs for concert and dance
audiences. Some highlight engagements were: The Chapin
Brothers Folk Concert, Folk Harbour Festival, an International
Health benefit at the Flamingo in Halifax, "New Faces" on ATV,
and Atlantic Airwaves". In 1990, Rhythm Method
released their independently produced cassette "Under the Moonlight"
at the Casino Theatre. More recently, Cathy participated in
the Fundy Folk Songwriters Project, recorded by CBC Radio.
As a member of Cuckoo Moon and as a solo performer,
Cathy continues to develop her creative process of writing interpretive
landscape into song.
