A core group of musicians has been playing the weekly sessions at Paddy's brewpub in Wolfville for some years now. The result is a fine listening experience to go with Paddy's fine beer, and a pleasurable evening for those musicians accomplished or intrepid enough to participate. For those at an earlier stage in their Celtic music development, on Tuesdays there is a Celtic learning session in Paddy's Pub in Kentville in the upstairs room. Pub Sessions are a cross between what goes on in many Irish pubs and an East Coast kitchen party/jam. The format is a song/tune circle. Each participant in turn may play one song or tune, or request a song or tune from someone else. The purpose of the sessions is to give musicians an opportunity to play with and learn from other musicians. Listeners are welcome, although the focus is on encouraging the playing and singing of Celtic, folk and traditional music. There are no microphones. There is no stage. All are welcome to participate. We hope to establish an atmosphere of inclusion and trust which will allow musicians to try out new material, to learn tunes from each other, to challenge themselves, and to gain experience playing with others.
